In the rarefied world of book auctions today, it is being reported that two publishers, Little Brown & Co and HarperCollins, are competing for the prize of biggest chumps in an auction hosted by super-agent, Ed Victor.
Current bidding for the as-yet-unwritten ‘autobiography’ of Keith Richards (which will be written by James Fox), currently stands at $7.3m. To make this pay for them, the winning publisher would have to secure world rights and a lot of serialisation.
When Mick Jagger reneged on a publishing deal that he was signed up for, the reason stated was that he could remember so little of it.
